Learning to paint

Welcome! And thanks for stopping by to look at my creations. I am a hobbyist, and not a professional artist.  I began by painting just for my own curiosity and pleasure, and it has turned into an unexpectedly rich and revealing journey.

I don’t ever paint with the intention of creating something I can sell ….. if I were to do that, I know that it would change the experience. I paint because it helps me touch a place inside of myself where delight, fascination and amazement reside. It’s a very personal activity.

Still, art supplies are not cheap. And one can display only so much art on their own walls. So this website can serve a second purpose, which is to offer the work to others who might enjoy it AND allow me to continue painting.

The good news is that it’s not expensive art. I hope it’s priced so that most people will find they can afford to buy a piece that speaks to them if they desire.

I will be adding posts to this blog to talk a bit about the creation process, in particular for the paint pouring style through which the canvases are created, and also the technique for creating some of the ceramic tiles.

I stepped into painting with watercolors in December of 2019.  I found it unexpectedly challenging, fascinating, and sometimes just great fun.

In April of 2020, I discovered alcohol inks and just had to see what that was about.  The saturation of inks after working with watercolors was like going from B&W television to Technicolor.  Some of you won’t understand that reference…suffice to say, it was huge leap.  Inks are just as challenging as watercolors in their own way, but I found there were more techniques and tools to work with which meant a lot of different styles.

In January of 2021, I stumbled upon acrylic paint pouring, where I’m still digging in.  So many techniques to explore!  There’s chemistry involved with all of it, and so it has forced me to work the little gray cells.  There have been many, many experiments that went sideways and ended up in the recycle bucket.  Thankfully there have been times when I was absolutely amazed and delighted at the outcome.

I don’t know where the journey will take me next, which is a big part of the joy of creating something unique.  With these mediums there are no two paintings completely alike.

The website isn’t yet ready for e-commerce, but if you are interested in owning a piece of my art do check out the Ordering link on the menu. And feel free to share my site with your own friends.

Knowing that others enjoy this art makes the creating all that more fun for me. I’m glad you came to visit. New paintings will be added as they become available, so I hope you will return!

If you hear a voice within you that says ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.
