Ahhh, the swipe

This was my first attempt at a swipe in a while, and with a slight variation that is new to me. Yet again I can’t decide on which orientation I like best so am sharing both. I love these colors, quite bold and with that startle effect you sometimes get when cool colors are combined with warm colors. The teal is a metallic and the red is a mica pigment so am hoping for a bit of bling when it dries.

I’m a little disappointed because I was approaching this as an experiment and as such I didn’t mix up enough white paint for the base coat. The sides of the little 8×8 canvas look shabby. I might be able to touch them up when dry. Every time I try to get away with the least amount of paint it comes back and bites me on the butt. You’d think I would learn, huh?

But the good news is, I have more paint and more canvases! And I’m definitely going to be doing more swipes, both on black background and on white. This gives such nice cells, but they are more of an accent than the main feature. The freehand methods always intimidate me a bit, I’m not very practiced with tools like a palette knife, but I’m not going to let that get in the way of playing with it. Practice brings progress, and play brings joy. Either way it’s a win-win.

Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice.
