Olympic gold

This is only my second attempt at an 11×14, and the first one was a fail that I had to scrape. I did try something probably this big early on, and realized it’s best to work with smaller canvases while you learn techniques.

Black as negative space is really gorgeous, especially wet. Maybe it’s especially beautiful because the risk is high….there are very few things I dislike cleaning up more than a failed painting with a lot of black. Ugh and ugly!

At the moment I really like this one. There’s some texture with random cells and, of course, with the ridges from the ring pour. However, what makes this painting significant for me personally is that there was a section I wasn’t happy with…..and I fixed it! I was pretty nervous but applied a simple technique I’ve seen more experienced fluid artists use, and I pulled it off. Gold star for me today!

Success is to be measured not so much by the position one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.
