As a general rule I usually post paintings that I’m happy with, for the most part. The painting above was my first attempt at a new technique, and there are so many things that didn’t go as expected. I started to get really upset about it, and then I remembered, hey, I’m learning. You gotta crawl before you can walk and all that jazz. Learning is often trial and error. Sometimes feels like a trial with a lot of errors, but at least I’m not letting fear of the unknown get in my way.
Have said that….not sure I’ll try this technique again <sigh>. Not because I’m afraid I can’t get a grasp of it, but because there is a similar technique that I’ve done before that is less challenging but can give much the same end result. So for me, that’s a no-brainer, go with the one that has worked for me before. No need to reinvent the wheel here.
I was hoping the first painting of the new year would feel like a home run….but maybe the second one will. Stay tuned, and best wishes for 2022!
