Lots of little paintings around here….the vast majority of them just for the fun of it, though a few are actual lessons or practice pieces for techniques. That little bird on the rocks there, believe it or not, is some kind of turning point for me. While I’ve been working on keeping things loose, particularly my attitude, something unexpected has happened. I have found I like the same things today in art that I imagine most of us liked when we were 3 or 4 years old. I like geometric shapes and lines coming from nowhere and going someplace unknown. I like dots for the sake of dots, and I absolutely adore splattering onto a finished painting. I also think silly looking little birds where you would least expect them are too cool!
This is what I want art to be for me….exploring, playing, making a mess, and finding joy in colors and forms of all types. This feels genuine for me, a part of me that I haven’t been in touch with for a while. I’m grateful to find it again.
Here’s a few other small paintings from the last week or so.

Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.
